Recommit to Yourself

Recommit to yourself

The second part of the year is often a time where we reflect on the months past and look towards the end of the year. We might be happy with the things we did and the progress we made or we may be judgmental of all the things we didn’t do, even though we were very motivated. Mostly, we tend to be critical of ourselves and have a tendency to look back more than to be present. Now, don’t get me wrong, it isn’t an easy task to be present and not be overwhelmed by all the negativity around us and inside us. The burden of suffering is heavy, and it can be quite overwhelming at times.

It’s been an overwhelming year for me personally, suffering from pain due to my medications. My mind would focus on the pain and everything that I wasn’t able to do, keeping me from being present and enjoying the beauty of life. I would get annoyed and short and feel unhappy, and as a result of that be mad at myself being unhappy and annoyed! One way I learned to balance myself is to take a break and do some internal cleansing.

We can look inside of ourselves and observe where we attach to the suffering and negativity in a way that is not serving anyone, let alone ourselves. In that sacred pause we can see what we focus on in the echo chambers of our mind and what is stored in our bodies that keeps the score. We can recommit to ourselves how we want to live our life, what relationship we want to have with the things that bring us joy and our suffering. We get to practice to live life to the fullest.

I believe we can all live our lives to the fullest, to live up to the potential of what is in our spirit. I believe we can recommit to ourselves by looking inside and connecting to our compassionate self, by praying and honoring our lives in community. Join us in this upcoming sound meditation Recommit to Yourself on Sept 21.
